Victoria finally got her “Girl” … not that she wouldn’t love her baby if it was a boy, but in an interview with Vogue magazine she said she often thought about how fun it would be to have a little girl and play dress ups and paint nails together.

I have one of each and while my little boy is super cuddly and so much fun to play with he is a bruiser and can’t sit still for 5 seconds, so I love the connection I have with my daughter when we just sit and play arts & craft and make-up.

Sooooooo, what do you think of the name????

“Harper Seven Beckham”

Hot hubby David confirmed the news on his Facebook page, after he and wife Victoria welcomed the baby, who weighed 7lb 10oz, overnight.

The footballer wrote: “I am so proud and excited to announce the birth of our daughter Harper Seven Beckham. She weighed a healthy 7lbs 10oz and arrived at 7.55 this morning, here in LA.

“Victoria is doing really well and her brothers are delighted to have a baby sister xx.”

So, what does the name mean?

The Seven in the name is believed to be a reference to David’s football number when he played for Manchester United and England, while the Harper could be referring to Harper’s Bazaar magazine or perhaps To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee.

My thoughts …

I love the name Harper … it was actually on my list of boys names, but after the musician “Ben Harper” … instead I had Maximus (or Maxi as he is called). As for SEVEN … mmm, i’m not so sure, but I guess it’s more socially acceptable for a middle name to be a little unusual. eg. Chef Jamie Oliver and his wife Jools called their little boy “Buddy Bear”.

Then again, I can’t talk either, my daughter’s name is Honey and I don’t know many of those!

Tell me what you think of the name by leaving a comment below (I love comments!) and if you like the article, please pass it on or share on Facebook :-)

Today’s blog post is courtesy of Claire Bushell from www.NewburyHomeBirth.org who shared her thoughts on Comedian Rob Brydon’s take on Home Birthing. Actually, it’s refreshing to make a bit of a joke about birthing because sometimes I think people take it so seriously, but to be honest childbirth is a funny and wonderful experience – well, I guess I’m lucky enough to think of it like that! Anyway … READ ON …

“Comedian Rob Brydon On Home Births”

by Claire Bushell

Comedian Rob Brydon announced the birth of his fifth son yesterday on his twitter feed “Hello Again! Two-week radio silence after birth of new baby, a boy. All doing well although some more sleep would be nice.”

A little later he added: “He’s my fifth child. Home birth in a pool in the kitchen. And no, I didn’t try to pass him like a rugby ball.”

I’ve heard him talk about his wife’s previous home birth experience several times on various tv shows and have been in stitches each time. I managed to find this short clip of his sketch about it on ‘Live at the Apollo’ and attach it here for your entertainment.

I love home birth being talked about in this public manner in such a normal kind of way. Yes he’s making it all sound quite hilarious in a way that may not be to everyone’s taste but I find that what comes across is a sense of awe of this amazing experience. I particularly love him saying right at the beginning of this clip ” And it’s different. A home birth is different. You don’t give lie on your back, you give birth like a mammal; you give birth on all fours like a bear, very naturally.”

Apparently, his wife went into labour 9 nine days early and everything happened very quickly. The home birth was unplanned which might explain why Rob sounds so unprepared for the event. However, it obviously didn’t put either of them off since they have just had what must have been a planned home birth this time complete with birthing pool.

Congratulations to Rob and his wife. I hope they are having a lovely time getting to know this precious new addition to their growing family.

Top 5 Questions About HypnoBirthing

I thought I’d share with you a list of the Top 5 Questions I get about HypnoBirthing today.

I know what “Pregnancy Brain” is like and when I was  sifting through all the information about different methods of childbirth and coping mechanisms it was like INFORMATION OVERLOAD.

So, I hope this information at least helps you understand HypnoBirthing a bit more, so you can decide if it’s right for you and your baby! (I definitely think it is, but it’s your baby and your body … xo)

1) What is HypnoBirthing?

It’s a childbirth method that teaches parents how to use deep relaxation, visualisation, and self-hypnosis techniques to have a more comfortable birth, limiting the need for drugs and intervention. HypnoBirthing encourages a calm, peaceful, and natural pregnancy/birth, which is very empowering and for mothers, partners and babies.

2) Is it true I can have a pain-free birth without drugs?

While, HypnoBirthing does not promise painless birthing, I have experienced a virtually pain-free birth for my 1st baby and for my 2nd at times I felt like I needed some period pain tablets (which I didn’t have after I got myself back into a deeper state of relaxation) but I that was it! Seriously, that I wouldn’t even consider that “Painful”.

When the cause of pain–fear that constricts the birthing muscles—is eliminated, birthing can be accomplished in a shorter period and much more comfortably. A relaxed mother’s body will produce more endorphins, nature’s own relaxants.

HypnoBirthing mothers may still experience sensations of tightening or pressure; but most describe their birth experience as working with their body through the sensations, and thus avoiding the excruciating pain that is frequently spoken of by women who choose other methods of preparation for birthing.

The births of my babies were beautiful, very calm and at the same time EMPOWERING! – and I believe that every woman deserves the opportunity to experience birth that way!

3) Does Hypnosis mean I will be unconscious or will I remember it?

You are definitely NOT unconscious during self-hypnosis. HypnoBirthing mums are just super-relaxed, but totally aware and may return to a conversant state or choose to move or do whatever you want when you want.  One of the best things with deep relaxation is that you can experience time distortion (I did and many other HypnoBirthing Mums report this too), which means you are not distracted by other people around you, meaning you just  focus on your birthing and your baby.

4) But what if I want to have drugs?

That’s cool – it’s still your choice and if you are worried that you won’t be able to do it, then you just ask for assistance from your nurse or doctor etc. but if practice and implement the HypnoBirthing techniques (seriously, it’s not rocket science) then you just won’t need or want any intervention in your birth.

5) How do I learn it?

Firstly, get the HypnoBirthing Book! …. I personally teach HypnoBirthing classes via a 5 week course and I honestly believe you need this time to learn the techniques properly.Hospital staff were talking about my birth for weeks! This is the MOST SPECIAL time in yours and your baby’s life, so please take the time to learn this properly.

I hope these questions have helped you! I am more than happy to answer any more of your questions about HypnoBirthing in general, your fears or even my personal experiences, so please leave a comment below or contact me.

If you feel this has helped you, please do me a favour and share this on your facebook wall or send it to a friend you think will enjoy it too.

Is HypnoBirthing The New Celebrity Craze?

Celebrities pave the way for new trends in fashion, workouts and diets, but is there influence now paving the way for a new craze in birthing techniques???

The Lamaze method, developed by French Obstetrician Fernand Lamaze has been a popular method childbirth for millions of women worldwide since the 1950′s and some of it’s more recent famous followers are Alanis Morriset and Tori Spelling.

Another style of birthing is waterbirth, which has been used by the likes of Former Baywatch Babe Pamela Anderson, Singer Nelly Furtado and Aussie Supermodel Elle MacPherson.

But recently … a new alternative birthing “craze” is gaining attention thanks to celebs like movie star Jessica Alba, former “Saved by the Bell” TV star Tiffani Thiessen and supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

They all attribute using hypnosis or what is well known as HypnoBirthing to achieve a comfortable birthing experience.

After Alba gave birth to her first daughter Honor Marie in 2008, she said “I didn’t scream. It was really Zen. I wanted to do it naturally. The labor was more like meditation”

And more recently she has appeared on The Ellen Show pregnant with her 2nd baby ready to use HypnoBirthing again to achieve a natural and comfortable birth.

The actual founder of “HypnoBirthing – The Mongan Method” Marie Mongan developed the method during the births of her 4 children in the 50′s and 60′s, but it wasn’t until 1989 that she released her first book and made the techniques available to a worldwide market.

She says:

  • “When you have your baby with HypnoBirthing , you will not be in a trance or a sleep. What you will experience is similar to the daydreaming, or focusing.”

  • “You will be conversant and in good spirits–totally relaxed, but fully in control.”

  • You will experience birthing in an atmosphere of calm relaxation, free of the fear that prevents the muscles of your body from functioning as nature intended them to. In this calm state, your body’s natural relaxant, endorphins, replaces the stress hormones that constrict and cause pain.”

Sounds amazing doesn’t it! … Or perhaps a little too good to be true?

To be honest if I wasn’t a HypnoBirthing convert myself, I would probably be skeptical, but what I know is that celebrities are normal women too and if myself and the likes of Jessica Alba can do this, then you can too!

We women are much more powerful than we realise and are BORN to give birth … I just wish that it didn’t take a “Celebrity Craze” to make us believe it!

Hypnobirthing: Can I Do It?

This is a very common question I am asked after revealing I used the Hypnobirthing technique to have a virtually PAIN-FREE and DRUG-FREE childbirth…. I actually describe the feeling of childbirth as “Walking On Cloud 9″.

If you are researching the Hypnobirthing method then I know you probably have lots of questions and/or reservations about if YOU can do this!
